In the first part of our series on sun safety, we explored all about SUNRAYS and it's effects.
In the second part we learnt about ABSOLUTE skin protection!
In this article, we will discuss all about tanning!
Let's Begin!
WHAT IS TANNING?
When our skin is exposed to UV rays, it triggers the production of melanin, a pigment responsible for the colouration of our skin, hair, and eyes.
The increased production of melanin leads to a darkening of the skin, giving it a tan sun-kissed appearance.
t's important to note that tanning is actually a sign of skin damage. The darkening of the skin is the body's natural defense mechanism against further UV radiation, as the increased melanin provides some protection against sunburns.
DANGERS OF TANNING :
SKIN CANCER
SUN BURNS
PREMATURE AGING
SOLUTIONS TO TANNING!
The ONLY right thing to do after tanning is to help your skin heal by providing basic HYDRATION + CALMING routine that will help your skin return to it's normal healthy state!
NEVER EVER think about bleaching your face or using harsh chemicals, this is literally the worst thing you can do!
Once you have successfully restored your skin's health and eliminated any signs of irritation, you can explore more advanced treatments such as chemical peels or professional skincare procedures.
STEPS TO DE-TANNING :
AT HOME PROCEDURES
calming face masks - clay or sheet masks to soothe the skin.

Now that you have healthy non-irritated skin,
you're ready for procedures that can help accelerate the de-tanning process
PROFESSIONAL PROCEDURES
MILD CHEMICAL PEELS - Vitamin C, Kojic Acid, or combinations.
LASER THERAPY - Q-switched lasers, fractional OR PICO lasers.
